The First 90 Days
Well a lot has happened since our first sale on ebay. What started out to be a side hustle for us as a family to make some extra money has quickly become my full time job. Now, you’ll hear stories of how people started an online store then over the years after growing it for awhile, they quit their full time job to run their stores full time. Well, that is not my case. I was with my company for close to 18 years when they decided they needed to reduce their workforce, so I am now working hard to make this a full time job. Luckily, Monica still works full time so we have that consistent income. Also, luckily for us, our kids Marisa and Nicholas are already grown and on their own. We share this business together but we’re all doing our own things outside of the business.
So where do we go from here? Well the first big change is our inventory model. We were originally only going to focus on vintage home decor, art glass, etc. Those items sell great but there is a limited market for them so we have expanded our inventory to include everything from shoes, to electronics, to games and everything in between. If we find a good deal, we pick it up and offer it in our store. We are looking to expand our marketing of vintage goods by securing a spot at a local antique shop. We have put in inquiries at a few and are hoping to secure a location by the end of the year. We also are looking for online marketplaces that specialize in those items so we can market them more directly to consumers looking for those items.
The great part of this journey so far is that our sales are picking up consistently each week and the customers we’ve dealt with have been great and encouraging in our endeavor! I will be looking to attend some reseller events to meet up and get best practices from individuals that have been in the game for awhile, and I look forward to sharing my years of retail experience with anyone that can use it as well.
